Dr. John R Walters, MD (RETIRED)
Dr. J.R. Walters has been in practice at Palmetto Ophthalmology since 1989. After receiving his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Furman University, he attended the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, SC. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and was awarded the Dean's Award at graduation. He completed his internship at Greenville Hospital System in Greenville , SC before finishing his residency in Ophthalmology at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
Dr. Walters was a Chief Flight Surgeon in the SC Air National Guard and retired after 21 years of service. During his time in the Air National Guard, he served many roles including Medical Squadron Commander and State Air Surgeon.
Dr. Walters is an member of the American Society of Cataract. And Refractive Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
